Place Matters 2023
A Community Workshop focused on the North Oregon Coast Food System
On July 28th, about 40 members of our community gathered for 3 hours at the Bob Chisholm Community Center in Seaside, OR, to discuss equity in our local food system. Attendees were roughly half Spanish-speaking and half primarily English-speaking, and careful work had been done to curate the guest list for representation from grassroots community leadership and institutional leadership. In addition to that curation, keys to the success of the evening were hiring professional Spanish-language interpreters (Carolina and Daniel from Linguava in Portland) and skilled professional facilitation.
The event was originally driven by members of CHART (Community Health Advocacy and Resource Team) including representatives from The Harbor, Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), North Coast Food Web, Columbia Pacific CCO, Wellville, Providence Seaside Hospital, and Master Gardeners.
